A pneumatic forklift typically has a pair of metallic blades installed on a wheeled counterweight that also has a pump. The pump is used to lift and lower the blades.

It is important to visually check the pallet vehicle before loading any resources and to make certain the handles move fluently, the pallet vehicle turns properly, and the lift is clear of any would-be obstacles. Inspect the load to make sure that there will be minimal opportunities for anything to drop off during lifting and moving. Release any air in the pump and drop the blades to the ground by squeezing the lever installed on the inside of the metal ring on the end of the lever. Run the blades into the slots in the pallet and ensure the forks are centered so that the pallets' mass is evenly distributed.

By pumping the pneumatic lift lever the forks will ascend from the floor. Once there is full clearance, you can stop pumping as there is no need to lift the hoist anymore. To move the pallet jack, you can drag the handle behind you. It is not recommended to push the pallet vehicle. There will be a huge amount of momentum present. Avoid quick or sharp turns and you should not stop too suddenly. Gently bring the pallet to a halt where you would like to park it. Squeeze the handle inside the handle end to restore the forks to the floor. Withdraw the forks and restore the pallet jack to a proper parking area or continue onto the next assignment.
